Integrated Massage Therapy College (IMTC) is a private institution that offers 3 programs of massage study both online and hands-on here at the college to complete the minimum or maximum amount of hours for your massage professional career.

The course of study for students enrolled shall consist of the state-mandated hour requirement in Massage Therapy and the ability to sit for the MBLEX Exam. In Oklahoma, that hour requirement is 500 hours of training.

The 256 hours available online consist of the CMP 5004 massage studies which is a total of 600 Clock Hours and are as follows for every 25 classes listed. The remaining 344 hours are offline at the college.

  1. Contraindications: In the Contraindication course, students will learn what contraindications mean to a massage therapist. This will help students evaluate clients coming in and to help identify potential problems. From time to time this is covered inside a massage topic to better understand the use of the massage technique and put into practice in the student clinic Student Clinics/Lab required
  2. Body Mechanics:  In the Body Mechanics course, students will learn proper body mechanics used while giving different styles of massage. The topic is covered heavily in the student clinic while performing massages on the public with an instructor close by. This will help students in their future massage practices by teaching/showing them skills now; so in the future burnout or injury does not occur, while ensuring optimum benefits to the client. I.e.: a much better and effective massage. Student Clinics/Lab required
  3. Health & Hygiene: In the Health & Hygiene course, a student will learn about the proper hygiene of therapist and different aspects of health issues. Required cleaning of massage tables, massage rooms, bathrooms, break rooms, and lobbies. The school is the practice ground for this skill and knowledge. Student Clinics/Lab required
  4. CPR & First Aide: CPR & First aid is a class that covers all basic information needed in emergency situations. The class covers information from the many CPR and First Aid training programs and the student can choose at a later date which program they would like to attend. *The student is not certified through IMTC
  5. Marketing: In the Marketing course, students will learn different methods of marketing/advertising by assisting in the duties of front desk tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments and attending outside events. This will give the student the ability to have effective marketing strategies and enjoy gainful employment. Student Clinics/Lab required
  6. Business: In the Business course, students will gain the knowledge needed to start and run a business. This knowledge and experience are gained while performing duties at the front desk and will also help the student make sound business decisions. Student Clinics/Lab required
  7. Ethics: In the Ethics course, students will learn both personal and professional (business) ethics. Ethics is covered throughout the entire course and the student clinics are set up to ensure a complete understanding of ethics and professionalism and the motto of massage “Do No Harm”.   8. Internship: Internship is required and is performed in the student clinic/lab. We do offer an additional, optional internship that can be found in the student catalog. The optional internship does not take the place of the required internship hours found in the course description. The optional internship is above and beyond the required student clinic/lab and provides skill reinforcement. A student must be able to show outstanding performance to qualify for the optional internship. There is no additional cost for the optional internship.
  9. Basic Massage: In the Basic Massage course, the student will learn the basic massage procedure. This allows each student to develop their own technique that will make them unique. Student Clinics/Lab required
  10. Sports Massage: In the Sports Massage course, the student will learn pre and post-event massage. Learning to combine anatomical and physiological knowledge, and understanding the athlete’s need for strength training and conditioning will aid the therapist in helping the athlete in achieving their highest potential.   11. Reflexology: In the Reflexology course, the student will learn about the different pressure points on the hands and the feet that correspond to organs and body systems. By stimulating these points they also stimulate the corresponding organ or body system. Student Clinics/Lab required
  12. Trigger Point: In the Trigger Point Work course, the student will learn the physiology of a trigger point, along with proper technique. This will better enable the student to appropriately handle trigger points that may or may not refer to different areas of the body. Student Clinics/Lab required
  13. Work Polarity: Polarity, developed by Randolph Stone, is a form of bodywork used with clients that have contraindications while enhancing the therapist and client grounding ability. It also helps the student with their body mechanics. Student Clinics/Lab required
  14. Acupressure: Coming from basic Chinese philosophy, Acupressure is a technique using touch by pressing or rubbing one or more points to better circulation or to relieve pain. Student Clinics/Lab required
  15. Swedish: This course covers the history of the theory of Swedish massage as we know it today. Based on Western concepts, Swedish massage employs manipulative techniques of effleurage, petrissage, vibration, friction, and tapotement. The movements can be slow and gentle, vigorous, or bracing. Student Clinics/Lab required
  16. Deep Tissue: In the Deep Tissue course, the student will learn some history of massage styles that are directed towards deeper muscle tissue and fascia. It plays the role of releasing tension in the tissues but is also used as a means for psychological release. There are different styles of techniques such as Art Riggs, Trager, and Hellerwork. The student will also cover more problematic areas that clients have, for example, shoulders, back, and hips. Student Clinics/Lab required
  17. Reiki: Reiki is a Japanese energy technique, founded by Dr. Mikao Usui, which reduces stress and promotes healing while treating the whole person. It is used when the client has contraindications but also alongside other techniques. It helps relieve side effects and promotes recovery.
  18. Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is a technique where the therapist uses the application of water (in any of the three forms – solid, liquid, and vapor) for therapeutic purposes. It is an additional aid to the healthy function of the client’s body. Student Clinics/Lab required
  19. Human Anatomy: In the Human Anatomy course, students will learn about bones, muscles, attachments, and origin/insertion. With the ability to identify muscles and bones the student will have knowledge of muscle groups and their interaction with different movements of the body. This will help the student better understand issues that a client may have, what can occur if one muscle group is hindered, and how the body compensates. Charts and graphs on the muscles and bones are used in this class. Hands-on in the student clinic provides a full learning experience. Student Clinics/Lab required
  20. Human Physiology: In the Human Physiology course, students will learn basic chemical reactions that occur in the human body. This better helps the student understand and proceed with ideal treatments for each individual client. The student will learn the physiological reactions that occur with different types or styles of massage. This prepares the student to understand possible medical requirements a doctor might request on a massage client and aids the student with enhanced job placement skills. Our hands-on student clinic help reinforce this information throughout the entire course. Student Clinics/Lab required
  21. Pathology: In this course, the student will learn about chronic and acute diseases that affect the body in different aspects, such as organs, skin, muscle, tissue, and bone. This information will be put to use in our student clinic by the student soap charting, performing massage techniques, and educating clients on the use of the technique. Student Clinics/Lab required
  22. Kinesiology: In this course, the student will study the movement of the body. The student will identify the insertion and origin of muscles and what motion they create. This information will be put to use in our student clinic by the student subjective, objective, assessment, and plan SOAP charting, performing massage techniques, and educating clients on the use of the technique. Student Clinics/Lab required
  23. Neuromuscular: An introduction to the neuromuscular system and the theories and techniques as developed by Dr. Stanley Leif and Mr. Leon Chaitow. The student will learn to identify soft tissue abnormalities and treat them with soft tissue manipulations to return them to their normal function. Disorders and treatment using the N.M.T. techniques are learned. Student Clinics/Lab required
  24. Hot Stone: In the Hot Stone course, the student will learn basic hot stone therapy. This includes how to choose proper equipment including stones, oils, and heating apparatus. Student Clinics/Lab required
  25. Spa & Salon: In the Spa & Salon Training course, the student will learn basic spa & salon procedures. This course offers the unique ability to combine all techniques in a spa or salon setting which allows the student another avenue for employment. Student Clinics/Lab required

 

The Common Massage Programs start with a minimum of 600 hours on up to the 1300 hours of the massage studies.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A passing (cumulative grade point average) CGPA score of at least 80% includes Attendance and Student Clinic/Lab Grade
  • Required attendance of classroom assignments, clinics/lab, or internship
  • Financial status is acceptable to the school. Tuition Balance Paid in Full

 

CERTIFICATES AND RECOGNITION

Upon meeting all completion requirements and tuition/fees are paid for the program, the student will receive certificates, transcripts, and a diploma for the program stated on the enrollment agreement. For any reason, additional copies are needed there is a $10.00 fee per copy.
